The Samsung Galaxy S4 Active has created a lot of buzz lately. Bringing the design and functionality from one of the top Android phones together with an IP67 rating for water and dust proof technology, there is quite a bit of awesome in one package. We decided to take a closer look and see what really makes Samsung’s new device tick!

Water and Dust Resistant

The first thing that comes to mind when we think of the S4 Active is its water-resistant capability. The Active is water-resistant up to 1 meter for 30 minutes, and there are a few key features that help it accomplish that. First, the entire back of the phone seals all the internal components, using a water and dust tight ring that seals in around the precious electronics. Second, the headphone port is actually built to be fully water-resistant without any additional covers or inserts. Lastly, the all-important charging and sync port at the bottom is covered with a rubber plug which is attached to the phone. It is recommended that you ensure the back is sealed, and the charging port is shut before any water use.

Speed

Of course coming from Samsung, this phone is going to be quick. The Active uses a Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 chipset, runs Android 4.2.2 Jellybean and of course has LTE functionality as well. To power all this, the Active comes with a 2600 mAh battery. Although some of the specs don’t quite match the standard Samsung Galaxy S4, this versatile device still sits near the top of the smartphone hierarchy.

Pretty Picture(s)

phone itself looks pretty great, and it can capture fantastic images as well. While down from the 13 megapixel camera of the standard Galaxy S4, the 8 megapixel camera on the Active has some extra features to make up for it. Not only is the camera water-resistant, the Active also includes an Aqua mode for optimized underwater photos. That mode also maps the camera button to the volume rocker so there will be no need to worry about using the touch screen underwater.

Whether you are using the Active for outdoor adventures, or just around the house, we always recommend adding the drop, bump and shock protection of the Samsung Galaxy S4 Active Defender Series, available now on OtterBox.com!
