Keep your New Year’s Resolution on track

Raise your hand if you’ll be making New Year’s Resolutions.  Now keep your hand up if you’re pretty sure those New Year’s Resolutions aren’t going to make it into February.  My hand is still up, is yours?  Try as I might, I can never seem to keep those pesky New Year’s Resolutions.  I always start off with great intentions but then something will happen to derail me.  And, that’s it.  It’s over.  I can never seem to get back on track.  Whether it’s a few bad weather days to keep me from getting my daily run in, or an all too delicious piece of chocolate cake staring me in the face.  Once I stray, I’m gone for good.

Not a great lesson to teach my kids, right?  Because I do try and lead by example and it’s really sad when you see that example going straight down the gutter.  I recently saw an idea for kids {on Pinterest, of course} and I think I’m going to give this one a try for myself, too.  Basically you try one new idea, one month at a time.  That seems way more manageable than focusing on the entire year, doesn’t it?

So, for January, I’m going to exercise 3-4 times a week.  That’s it.  Then in February, I’ll reevaluate and set a new goal and so on and so on.   Hopefully, I can continue with the exercise thing and just add something new to it.  I really want my New Year’s Resolutions to stick so I’m hopeful that will be the ticket!  And, I really want my kids to see me sticking to something, too.  Wish me luck!
