The 5 Best Tech Innovations of 2013
2013 was a great year for new technological innovations. With releases from tech giants such as Google, Samsung and Apple along with the long-awaited release of gaming platforms from both Sony and Microsoft, it was a huge year. We put together a list of cool 2013 gadgets and technology innovations, here are just a few of our favorites:
There were a few entries in this category, the biggest of which being the Samsung Galaxy Gear. Smartwatches have been on nerds and techies alike ever since we can remember, and 2013 was the year to bring that into the mainstream. While some may argue that it’s more of a novelty than anything, the rise of the smartwatch is a step in the right direction for wearable tech. We are excited to see where this goes next!
2. PS4/Xbox One
After what seems like an eternity, the goliaths of gaming are at it again with the Sony Playstation 4 and Microsoft Xbox One both of which released this year. Both come out of the box with significant hardware and software upgrades over the previous generation, but as we have seen, these things only get better with time. We are excited to see how these two machines evolve over the next few years.
3. Google Chromecast
Streaming devices are nothing new, but never before has this technology been available in such a compact, affordable and easy-to-use package. Chromecast allows users to stream content from a Chromecast enabled app to a TV with a simple HDMI connection. Starting with only a few apps, Chromecast is now compatible with Netflix, HBO GO, Hulu Plus, Pandora, YouTube, Google Play TV & Movies, Google Play Music, VEVO, Redbull.TV, Songza, Plex, PostTV, Viki, and RealPlayer Cloud. We’re sure to see even more media added to this list in the future, not a bad deal for only $35.
4. Apple iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c
Apple broke new ground this year by releasing two mobile devices at once — the innovative iPhone 5s, and the affordable iPhone 5c. The iPhone 5s packs a punch with the new A7 and M7 processors, along with the incredibly cool Touch ID Fingerprint sensor on the home button. The iPhone 5c offers Apple fans a less expensive and more colorful option. Make sure to check out all the OtterBox cases for iPhone 5s and the iPhone 5c.
5. Motorola Moto X
Now that Google owns Motorola, we were excited to see what they were able to offer us this year, and we were not disappointed. Not only is the Moto X fully customizable, reflecting the Android platform, it is extremely functional. With a simple “OK Google Now” the Moto X lights up, ready for your command. That’s how an Android should function. It’s also compact, boasting a 4.7” AMOLED screen, this device still seems to fit perfectly in your hand. Now upgrading to Android 4.4 KitKat — this device packs quite a punch. Did you get the Moto X? Make sure you protect it with an OtterBox case for the Moto X.
