The Quest for the New iPad

Yesterday invites went out from Apple announcing the event that will reveal their next device. The unofficial date of March 7 became official and Apple fans around the world couldn’t be more excited. The announcement will take place on that Wednesday at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts Theater in San Francisco, Calif. Apple was fairly vague beyond the announcement stating that they have “something you really have to see. And touch.” Rumors have been flying around like crazy and we will finally get our first look into Apple’s next product. After the announcement we will recap all of these rumors to let you know which ones panned out and which ones were just crazy speculations. Here are some of the latest rumors:

  • The new iPad release date will be March or April 2012. The launch event on March 7 has been confirmed and my guess is that we’ll probably also see the release of iOS 5.1 at the same time.
  • On 27 February it was reported by TechRadar.com that the new iPad was ready to ship from Foxconn in China and a shipment would arrive in the US on March 9.
  • Digitimes believes the new device will reach 9.5 to 9.8 million units over the course of Q1.

With all of these rumors we have been reading, we decided that we needed more info straight from the source. I took a trip to Cupertino, Calif. to see if I could find any information on this new device. Take a gander at this video to see what I found out:
