The Samsung Galaxy S II and OtterBox

Posted on by Mando Madge

I guess some of you might be wondering: “Is OtterBox making a case for the Samsung Galaxy S II?” The answer, my faithful otter-loving friends, is YES. You can probably guess by now that OtterBox only makes cases for select devices. Why? Well, with so many devices coming out all of the time, we simply have to choose where to concentrate our efforts… we can’t do it all!

So, why did we choose to make a case for the Galaxy S II? The real question is: Why WOULDN’T we make a case for this amazing device?

Personally, my favorite feature of the Galaxy S II would have to be the AllShare function. Like most of you, I have multiple “toys” at home. My home audio system, flatscreen television…the list goes on (as it does for most gadget-loving geeks). AllShare allows you to link your phone to these devices via wireless! Any multimedia files you have on your phone, you can play on your television or home audio system. Talk about finding new ways to use your other electronics! That is innovative.

Another great feature of the Samsung Galaxy S II is Live Panel. With Live Panel, your phone learns which functions you use the most and makes them readily accessible on your home screen. A phone that learns what you use the most and then displays the information in an aesthetically pleasing magazine layout? Awesome.

The inside workings of the Galaxy S II are amazing, but what about the actual form factor? This has got to be another favorite feature of the phone: IT IS THIN. When I say thin, I mean REALLY thin. The body is less than 8.5mm thick, which makes this one of the leanest, meanest smartphones on the market.

Other things like the Super AMOLED Plus display and the Readers Hub are stellar. Enjoy a more vivid visual experience wherever you are while visiting your favorite social space or reading a book you chose from the Readers Hub. Throw in the 8.0MP camera with an LED flash and you’ve got yourself a deal.

OtterBox only picks the best of the best. That is why we have decided to build Commuter Series protection for this device. Sign up today to receive email notification when this case is available! If you are still trying to decide on a phone, think about this post and consider the Samsung Galaxy S II.

any ETA on the availability for this. i need this badly. i want my newly bought s II to be protected…

    i just can’t wait anymore…. XD

  4. Brian says:

    Two things:
    1. When will you release the Samsung Galaxy SII Commuter Series to be compatible with AT&T and Verizon?

    2. Why on earth haven’t ya’ll created a Defender Series, yet?

With over 10m units sold internationally, i’m sure you can expect to see similar stats domestically. I don’t understand why you don’t have these cases ready.

      Hi Brian,
We have gotten lots of requests for the Samsung Galaxy SII and we are currently looking into the oprion of creating a case for it. A lot of research goes into each device before it’s launch. We do our best to identify which devices get awesome OtterBox protection, but occasionally miss the mark. We will have an answer very soon.

  5. Brian says:

    sprint*

  6. Paul Lennox says:

You can add me to the defender list! I really need the protection offered of the defender over the commuter.

  7. Peter says:

When will you release the Samsung Galaxy SII Defender Series? Please add me to the Defender list!!!
The protection level offered by the Defender is a must for those of us whom work in the tough conditions of a constuction site.

    • OtterBox OtterBox says:

We currently do not have plans for a Galaxy SII Defender series case… we’ll let you know if that changes!

      • David says:

Hey outter I hav a ? What bout t mobile galaxy s2 I see u hav defender series for the skyrocket n I also see that it probly fits but can u email me more if it does fit da galaxy s2 tmobile version cuz its fustrated that u guys focus on att knowin that thurs other carriers that wud want that defender series asap

        • OtterBox OtterBox says:

We actually do have options for most carriers and manufacturers, including AT&T. Unfortunately we don’t have a T-Mobile option. If anything comes up, we will be sure to let you know.

  8. Greg A says:

Count me among the many folks that want to see a Defender series case for the Galaxy S II. I loved my Defender for the Atrix.

  9. jim says:

Tell me otterbox, you’ve paid all this attention to the release of the iPhone 4s, a phone that in my opinion is a crappy upgrade from the 4, and you have paid no attention to the release of what is being called the best smart phone available on the market today.

The least you could do is come out with a proper case and screen protector for the commuter series that will fit the US versions, especially att

The defender series shouldn’t be in the talks it should be in production. You all have dropped the ball on this one. So sad..

    • OtterBox OtterBox says:

Hi Jim. We certainly appreciate the feedback. Unfortunately I just got word that we will not be offering a case for the Samsung Galaxy S II Epic Touch 4G. We were not given the resources and with the amount of research and development time that goes into our cases, we just don’t feel we can now deliver an option in a timely fashion. We apologize if we have disappointed our Otter fans. We do our best to cover all of the best devices, but occasionally miss the mark.

  10. Ron says:

No defender series; alright. Well how about that commuter series; is it going to be made available for the T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II?

Or did their change in form factor cause too much trouble?

  11. Paul says:

Now I’m waiting. Got my new AT&T Galaxy s II and came directly to the Otterbox site to order a case. I’d previously seen the Commuter available. Now I see what I missed. It’s not for the AT&T version. Will there be anything else out soon? Is the international version a close match? Or, is there anything else that comes close? Besides the folding waterproof cases.

    • OtterBox OtterBox says:

The AT&T version is a different form factor from the International version, we’ll be making a Commuter Series for the AT&T version as well… we hope to have more information and an email sign up page live soon!

  12. Robert says:

Any plans of a commuter for a T-mobile version?

  13. pat says:

Will there be an otterbox version for the sprint samsung galaxy s II?

    • OtterBox OtterBox says:

Hi Pat. Unfortunately we have decided not to make a case for the Sprint version. We weren’t able to get the resources needed to make a case in a timely fashion. We hope to cover your next device!

  14. Matt says:

What the release date for the ATT version? Do you have a link to preorder the commuter?

  15. Jason Hudson says:

wow! I have never gotten an otter box case in my life, heard so much about it that i decieded to get one as soon as i get a new phone. Well got one about a week and a half ago and to this day still have not gone and got a case for it, in fact i am afraid to take it out of the box. i personally think that it would be beneficial for your company to make cases for this phone and all its versions, i mean i am with sprint so i got the epic 4g touch version. there seems to be a high demand and if you look around i have not seen a single decent case for this phone. I for one can give you several reasons to why i want the best protection for my phone. i work at a warehouse enviroment when i am in town part of my job consist of travelling all over south america. and when i am not at work i am on my Motorcycle riding around town and going out of town. constantly on the move and active. and i am sure allot of people can come up with several reasons. please reconsider… i am sure several of us will be willing to wait or get a temporary case till your case comes out.

  16. Kenny says:

When will any form of otterbox be created for the sprint epic 4g touch (galaxy SII)?

  17. James says:

I would like to echo the disappointment of not making a case for the Sprint Epic Touch 4G – how fundamentally different can a case for the T-Mobile and Sprint variants be given the subtle change in form factor? Miscues like this lose customers for life – not just for two years until I buy another phone you won’t make a case for – and if continued, will kill your company.

If you want to retain your reputation as the manufacturer of cases for premium smartphones in the US, wouldn’t it make sense that your customers would expect you to make cases for the premium smartphones now being released in the US?

  18. Keith says:

Any news on the release date for the ATT model (sgh-I777) otterbox? I have the ballistic case for now but it leaves a lot to be desired. You can add me to the list of people who would buy the Defender case.

  19. Hana Matkin says:

Please, please reconsider in making an otterbox commuter case for the U.S. Sprint version of the Samsung Galaxy S II Epic 4G Touch. Just from the comments here and I know many other people who would love to buy an otterbox for the Sprint version! I’ve been searching for a decent case for the Sprint version and have found only a halfway okay one..and really there’s only like 3 cases even available period for that version! This is an amazing phone and deserves an amazing otterbox case!

  20. Erica says:

So disappointed Otter will not be making a case for the T-mobile version of the Galaxy S II.

  21. mike says:

Same here on a Defender series case. I guess I’ll have to get something similar elsewhere, as I have to have a belt clip. Sucks because Otterbox was recommended so highly at the store I bought my phone

  22. Enrique says:

T-mobile’s samsung galaxy 2 is in need of a reliable and trusted case for not just me but for millions sg2 US owners wanting to add protection to their investment.
As I have always depended on this company, you have lost my loyalty and I’m truly disappointed with Otterbox. Add this to your “research”.

    • OtterBox OtterBox says:

We are sorry to have disappointed you, Enrique. Unfortunately we aren’t able to make a case for every device available on the market today… there are just too many. We do our best to determine those devices that should receive OtterBox protection and hope we can protect your next device.

  23. Tim says:

This is a huge disappointment, I have been looking forward to a Otter box case for my Tmobile Galaxy S II 4g for sometime now. Im sorry but since your company produced multiple cases for the original galaxy s to satisfy the different dimension of each phone, I fail to understand how suddenly with the new galaxy s II this is no longer possible. This is one of the popular phones in the country and clearly there is a demand for it. I love the products this company makes and i hope you reconsider your stance on cases for the other versions of the galaxy s II

    • Bethany says:

I agree, just looking at this website alone there is obviously a huge demand for this product. It seems like a bad sales choice to me to not respond to this demand. Not only are you missing out on the sales the tmobile case would bring, you are also losing customer loyalty.

  24. Daniel Carroll says:

If you want to be the best, then you have to make a defender with a belt clip for the best phone out there and that is the samsung galaxy s2 at&t!!!! Add me to your list.

  25. Jeff says:

Echoing the dissapointment. Have heard and seen that Otterbox Defender series is the case to have, especially in mu co-workers an my line of work. Law Enforcement / Soldier! Since the “new” iPhone 4S is a halfstepped incomplete iPhone 5, many people opted out of apples Microsoft “windows ME/2000/VISTA “BS production move, and got the Samsung Galaxy S 2!!
Anyone with an iPhone needing Defender level protection definitely is worthy for the Galaxy also.
Think you should quickly reevaluate the exploding market and sales for the Samsung Galaxy S 2 (AT&T)!
Put me on the list along with over the 2 dozen soldiers, cop’s. and EMS worker’s that just I know whose galaxy wont leave their side!

    • OtterBox OtterBox says:

There has been some confusion with the Samsung Galaxy SII since there are so many versions out there, but I wanted to clarify that we will be offering protection for the AT&T version (aka the Skyrocket). We will have a sign up form on the website once the release gets closer. Keep an eye out!
