USA Pro Cycling Challenge
As OtterBox prepares to hit the road for the week-long USA Pro Cycling Challenge, one of our field marketing reps (a.k.a. cycling nerd) graciously shared his enthusiasm and expert knowledge prior to departure. Read along with us and look for the bright yellow OtterBox tent at each of the Colorado stops next week!
The Coors classic is what started it all for Colorado cycling back in the 1980s and now it is back with the new and improved 2nd edition of the USA Pro Cycling Challenge. Times have changed from the days of 30-pound bicycles and minimal technology, improvements to the mechanics of a bicycle and computers to track data have become integral to this modern race. Now the bicycles weigh in right around 15 pounds and riders are able to make a living traveling around the world to race. With millions of dollars being spent on product, travel, team chefs and vehicles, these world class athletes are able to train year-round, focus on nutrition and how to ride faster and stronger.
With 16 teams from around the world, this race has become a part of a top racer’s schedule including the Spring Classics in Europe, Tour of California, Giro de Italia, Tour de France and in 2012, the Olympic Road Race and individual time trial. For some of these riders this race is taking place in their home right here in Colorado, where they have trained for thousands of miles throughout the year to now be prepared for an eventful week of racing. Everything they have trained for up to this point is to help them endure climbing several mountain passes, pedaling at 12,000 feet and competing for the overall leader’s jersey.
With one year under the belt, the USA Pro Cycling Challenge has gained international appreciation and a reputation to challenge the world’s best by sending these riders to heights they only compete in once a year. We look forward to enduring the ride along with these world-class riders — USA Pro Cycling Challenge or bust!!
